In the past week alone, we helped three different brands uncover a painful truth: the clicks they were seeing weren’t real. Their dashboards showed strong performance—spikes in traffic, high CTRs, even solid CPMs. But something wasn’t adding up.

These aren’t just bots from a basement in Belarus anymore. They’re sophisticated networks of real people—or well-disguised programs—paid to click on ads, watch videos, and mimic engagement. And they can wreck a media budget in days.

It starts with what happens after the click.
Click farms are designed to manipulate ad-level metrics: they inflate clicks, impressions, and even CTR. This creates the illusion that a campaign is resonating, especially in the early stages. And in many attribution models—especially last-click or media-platform-reliant ones—that’s all you see.
But real users behave differently from fake ones.

A typical, high-intent user—say someone clicking a retargeting ad for a $120 D2C kitchen appliance—doesn’t bounce after two seconds. They skim. Scroll. Click into specs. Maybe check reviews. Some drop off, sure, but the depth of behavior is measurable.
Click farm traffic, on the other hand, tends to follow a few dead giveaways:
Sessions under 3–5 seconds
No scroll activity
Zero secondary page views
Unusually high bounce rates
Predictable or identical session patterns across geos/devices
In one case, we helped a CPG brand identify a huge disconnect: a Meta campaign driving 8,000+ clicks in 48 hours—but less than 6% of users scrolled past the first viewport. Session durations clustered around 1–3 seconds, and there were zero CTA interactions.
We overlaid this with BooleanMaths’ session-level user tracking, and the story became clear. The brand’s pixel showed a massive divergence between traffic volume and engagement events.
We weren’t just looking at GA bounce rate or Meta’s in-platform metrics. We were following what users did on the page, from scroll depth to button interactions to time between events.
One of the most telling signals? The click-to-engagement lag—a real user takes anywhere from 2–5 seconds to process a landing page and scroll. Bots often act too fast, or not at all.
This level of granularity is only possible with a full-funnel attribution setup that doesn’t end at the click.
It’s not about proving whether a platform like Meta is inflating metrics intentionally. It’s about owning the data that tells you whether a campaign is bringing real, human intent to your website—or just artificially boosting engagement for short-term vanity metrics.
In another scenario, a SaaS company we worked with had surprisingly high form-start rates. But form completions were abnormally low. When we compared user paths using BooleanMaths’ first-party pixel, we saw that hundreds of “form initiations” were from the same IP clusters and mobile device profiles.

First-Party Pixel = Real Behavioral Data

Third-party tools—like Meta Pixel or even basic GA setups—rely on inferred behavior. They track pageviews and events based on what the platform thinks is happening. But that doesn’t mean you’re seeing the truth.

Let’s step into a recent example.
A B2B SaaS platform was seeing great traffic from branded paid search. Their Google Ads dashboard showed high clickthrough rates, low CPCs, and seemingly high conversion intent. But actual demo sign-ups were lagging, and user behavior didn’t match the ad platform’s story.
When we layered BooleanMaths pixel into their site, the picture shifted:
67% of sessions showed no scroll activity whatsoever
81% of users didn’t click any element on the page
Form interactions were initiated from a single mobile device type—across thousands of sessions
That last insight was critical. These weren’t real users. This was a coordinated click farm campaign, possibly hired by a competitor to sabotage bidding performance.
Our pixel didn’t just record “clicks.” It captured the absence of real behavior—no scrolling, no element focus, no time-lagged action sequences that would signal a human navigating and deciding.
We track several behavioral signals that click farms struggle to fake:
Scroll depth & scroll speed – Human users scroll with variance, and often pause mid-content. Bots either scroll immediately, or not at all.
Time-on-scroll events – Time between page load and scroll initiation. A lag of 2–5 seconds is typical for real humans.
Form interaction pacing – Bots tend to fill out fields instantly. Real users hesitate, skip fields, go back. We capture these patterns.
Hover intent & CTA friction – Real users hover over buttons before clicking, especially pricing or checkout CTAs. Bots don’t.
Tab switch behavior – Users often switch tabs before completing a form or transaction. We track those as part of the session narrative.
When you own your behavioral data, you stop relying on platforms to tell you who your users are. You can build your own “truth layer.”
Truth Layer = Track Full-Funnel User Journeys
It also means you can proactively label and segment traffic into quality tiers:
Tier 1: Real users with multiple interactions, scroll behavior, CTA hover, or repeat visits
Tier 2: Suspicious users with partial behavior or mismatched interaction speeds
Tier 3: Click farm indicators—instant form fills, no scroll, short sessions, clustered IPs
Once this data is structured, it doesn’t just tell you what happened—it teaches your bidding algorithms what not to optimize for.

Suppress bad traffic from influencing lookalike models

Tune out entire geo-locations or device types linked to fraudulent traffic

That’s why when we’re working with brands to detect click fraud, one of the first things we ask is: What are you trusting? And how many sources are you comparing?
Most teams still rely heavily on platform-side data—Meta’s Pixel, Google Ads attribution, GA4 reports—and while these tools are helpful, they also carry two fatal assumptions:
That their attribution models match your business logic.
That their reported “users” are actual humans.
The truth? Click farms exploit these exact assumptions.

Earlier this quarter, we worked with a D2C skincare brand that was seeing massive performance lifts from a retargeting campaign on Meta. The click-through rates were high, the ROAS looked solid at face value, and Meta’s dashboard even showed solid post-click conversion attribution.
But something felt off.
Engagement in Google Analytics didn’t match. The number of actual users completing checkout, or even spending more than 10 seconds on the product page, wasn’t increasing at the same pace.
So we did a data triangulation pass:
Meta Pixel said the campaign drove ~19,000 clicks, ~2,100 “View Content” events, and 137 purchases.
Google Analytics (GA4) logged only ~9,800 sessions from Meta traffic.
BooleanMaths first-party pixel recorded ~8,600 sessions with any meaningful behavior, and only 1,400 with any scroll depth or CTA interaction.
That’s a 55% drop from Meta’s top-of-funnel data to first-party engagement.
Where did those 10,000+ clicks go?
We started comparing timestamps. In one spike, 1,200 clicks came in between 10:43 and 10:45 AM. That’s 10 clicks per second, on a single campaign.
We cross-referenced this with the Meta Pixel logs:
Clicks: 1,212
Devices: 1,167 listed as Android 10
Geography: 92% came from “Other Africa,” a vague geo-bucket Meta uses
Form completions: 0
Scroll events (BooleanMaths): 3
There’s no universe where that’s human traffic.
Now compare that with what the Meta Pixel claimed:
“+114 purchases attributed via 7-day click model.”
We traced the conversions using GA and internal CRM records. Only 27 of those purchases actually happened. The rest? Likely misattribution due to post-click blending across sessions, cookies, or last-touch windows that didn’t reflect reality.
This is the hidden cost of trusting single-source attribution.
Cross-referencing gives you truth by contrast.
We often advise teams to check three dimensions:
Click timestamps: Sudden bursts of clicks from one geo or campaign? Red flag.
Location anomalies: If 80% of “conversions” come from regions you don’t ship to, something’s off.
Device & browser patterns: Repeating device+OS combos in large clusters often indicate automation.
